Civil resilience in Sussex
Residents join free. Continuity plans and exercises for the buildings that have to stay open.
Sussex runs from Chichester Harbour to Camber along the coast, with the Downs behind it and Gatwick and Crawley to the north. A power cut, a flood or a week without phones looks the same here as anywhere else on the south coast, and most households have not thought about which neighbour they would go to.
The network covers Brighton and Hove, Worthing, Crawley, Chichester, Horsham, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Bexhill and Shoreham.
Residents in Sussex
Membership is free. Members are people on the same streets who have done the basics at home and know each other's names before anything happens. Residents and neighbours.
Organisations in Sussex
Care homes, schools, surgeries and the firms in Sussex that have to stay open when the services stop are expected to hold a continuity plan that has been tested. I write the plan for the building you actually have, test it with you and the staff on duty in the working day, and write the test up and date it for the file. Continuity plans and exercises.
The local resilience forum
South Coast Civil Resilience is independent and civilian. In an emergency, call 999. The Sussex Resilience Forum covers East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove, and publishes the community risk register for Sussex on its pages hosted by Sussex Police. The network sits alongside it, not in its place.
